The Lighthouse of Alexandria
Hi, I'm Claire. I'm going to tell you about the Lighthouse of Alexandria. In the 3rd century BC the tower was built on the island of Pharos. The height of lighthouse is estimated to be 380ft to 490ft. It is said to be one of the tallest man-made structures on Earth. It was destroyed around 1489 AD.
I read a man named Abou gave the best description about the lighthouse. He said one side was strongly built. He also said that there was an ancient inscription that he could not read. I believe everything he said because he visited the lighthouse in 1166.
I also read the lighthouse was a very popular place. It was so popular that the word Pharos means lighthouse in three different languages.
