Hi, I'm Claire. I'm here to tell you about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, also known as one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. They were built by a man named Nebuchadnezzar II. He built the gardens to make his wife happy; she missed all the plants and greenery from her homeland. The gardens are located near Al Hillah in Iraq which used to be known as Babylon.

I learned the gardens contained plants and animals from all over the world. Cypress, Palm, and fruit trees, Anemones, Tulips, Lilies, Irises, and Roses were just some of the many plants and trees found at the Hanging Gardens.

I think one of the most amazing things about the gardens is how the gardens were watered. The water was supposedly lifted by a "chain pump." The chain pulled buckets of water up to an upper pool. Then gates could be opened to let water flow down channels to water certain parts of the garden.

I read that it is believed that after the second century a lot of earthquakes destroyed the Hanging gardens of Babylon.
