Hi, my name is Matthew. I am going to tell you about basketball. The NBA stands for National Basketball Association. Basketball was created in the United States. The first game was played on November 1, 1947. They played in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The teams were the Toronto Huskies and the New York Knickerbockers. The American Basketball Association began in 1976. The American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association finally joined into the same league in 1976.

In the history of the NBA, there have been many famous people. One of the most famous basketball players is Michael Jordan. Other superstars are Wilt Chamberlain, Earvin Johnson known as "Magic" Johnson, and Larry Bird. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, and Jerry West are other famous players.
