Hi I'm Shahroze and I'll tell you
about boxing. Etruscans are called pugilism of boxing. The Greek people
weren't the first people to make rules for boxing. Mediterranean areas
while clinching was banned. Fights weren't separated into rounds. There
was no time limit. They ended at injuries, or fighter hitting, or even
maybe death. Although gloves were used in practice, in a fight players
wrapped their hands in hardened leather to prevent injury. Homer's lliad
holds the first detailed account of a box competition.
Modern Boxing
Records of classical boxing activity
fell down after the fall of Roman Empire. There was also a sport called
Fistfight. The first bare knuckle fight in England appeared in 1681. English
bare-knuckle champion was James Figg in 1719. 1719 was the time when the
word boxing first was common. There were no weight checks and no referee
to see the round.
Ancient Roman Boxing
In ancient Rome there were two types of boxing from the Etruscans. There
was an athletic form that was good in the whole Roman World. Gladiatorial
boxing is the next form in boxing. The slaves that lived there would fight
to get there freedom. Free people also would fight. Boxing became so famous
even kings, queens, and emperors would fight. 500 A.D was the time when
Theodoric the Great banned boxing because it messed up peoples faces.
