MINKS
Minks are small animals that are
related to weasels. Mink are mammals related to the weasels except they
live in swampy areas to hunt, in some rare times you might see a Mink
in the grass lands hunting for small animals like lizards. Mink are suppose
to have , rich fur but sometimes they can be black with scattered spots
on there back. Like weasels and otters Mink have long bodies and short
legs. A mink may stretch to 24 inches from its nose to the tip of his
tail.
Minks live in Alaska, Canada. And most of the lower 48 states. They are
not found in the far north of Canada or in the dessert areas of the southwest.
Minks like dense plant cover along streams,
Ponds, rivers, and marshes. Minks are small enough to dart into small
spaces when they are being attacked. Minks will dig burrows in homes where
they know they cant be harmed sometimes they will steal a muskrats home.
Underwater, a hunting mink will look for crayfish, crabs, and even a muskrat
(yuck!). A muskrat can weigh out a mink but cant out swim a mink nor can
it dodge its sharp teeth. Minks hunt along the shoreline for the things
that wash up on the sand such as frogs, insects, worms, and nesting birds.
Sometimes mink slip off into a meadow to hunt mice or bunnies. Meanwhile,
the mink itself has to watch out for predators such as foxes, dogs, coyotes,
and owls.
