Hi, I'm Aaron. I want to tell you about Delta Works. It's very cool, you
won't believe it.
History
The section of the river that meets
the sea, or estuary, of the rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt have been
subject to many flooding over the centuries. So someone had to figure
out how to stop the flooding. The Dutch decided to do something about
it. They did it by studying the damming of the Rhine-Meuse Delta. The
plans were made for shrinking the coast line and turning the estuary into
some fresh water lakes. By doing this, less dikes would have to be reinforced.
They planned to block some parts
of the river estuaries, in the Oosterschelde, Haringvliet and Grevelingen.
These are some pretty weird names! This shrunk the dikes quite a bit.
The Delta works are a bunch of structures built in the years 1950 to 1997
to do just this. This is what Delta Works does
they make dams to
make sure to stop the flooding problems and give us fresh water.
Conclusion
Those were some really good facts
about Delta Works. I hope you enjoyed reading my article about Delta Works.
My name is Aaron and I salute to you. Bye!
