The Golden Bridge was
a wonderful sight to see. It was constructed began on January 5, 1933.
The Project was more than $35 million which is a lot of money.
Strauss (the chief doing the projects
and other stuff) was overseeing day- to-day construction and making some
ground contributions. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati,
he placed a brick from his alma mater's demolished McMicken Hall in the
south anchorage before the concrete was poured.
The bridge - opening celebration
began on May the 27 of 1937 and lasted for one week. The day before vehicle
traffic was allowed 200,000 people crossed by foot and roller skate.
Despite its red appearance, the color
of the bridge is officially an orange vermilion called international orange.
Its color was selected by a consulting architect Irving Morrow because
it blended well with the natural surroundings yet enhances the bridges
visibility in the fog.
