Hi. My name is Katrina, and I will
tell you about the Grand Canyon. It is one of the natural wonders of the
world. The Grand Canyon is in Arizona. It is a very big gorge of the Colorado
River. It is about 1 mile deep, 4-18 miles wide, and about 217 miles long.
Some people like to go to the Grand
Canyon since it is a natural wonder. In 1540, a Spanish explorer, Garcia
Lopez de Cardenas, was the first European to see the canyon. A US explorer,
John Wesley Powell, became the first person the lead a group of people
through the bottom of the canyon in a boat.
In 1908, the Grand Canyon became
a national monument. A big area was titled the Grand Canyon National Park.
In 1975, the park got bigger to add areas like the Marble Canyon, Lake
Mead, and parts of the Glen Canyon. Riding rafts and boats along the river
at the bottom of the Grand Canyon are popular. For more information, go
