| Hi again.
I'm Aaron (as far as you know, if you read my article about cars) and I
will tell you about the history of lighthouse structures in this article.
The first lighthouse was built in
the Third Century by the Pharos and was used to guide ships on the Nile.
It is about 440 ft. tall and is one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.
It was made of stone and wood shingles. It was lighted by a wood fire
and showed smoke by day and a glow at night. That's a lot of fire used!
The first lighthouse built in America
was the tower for the Boston light on Little Brewster Island. It was built
in 1716. The first structure of the Brant Point Light, the Nantucket,
was built in 1749. By 1789, the U.S. Government took over the care of
lighthouses from their former private owners. There are about 600 lighthouses
in America. That's a lot of lighthouses! They are used as a signal for
boats.
I've learned a lot about lighthouses.
Lighthouses can be used for a lot of stuff. They can be a home. They are
tall and bright. They can last a long time.
Thanks for reading this. Bye
