Hi, I am Tim and I will tell you about the Temple of Artemis. The temple is a wonder of the ancient world. It is in Greece. Greece is a small country in southern Europe. The Temple of Artemis was built in honor of the goddess Athena. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and warfare. The Temple of Artemis is located near the ancient city Ephesus. I want to go there someday. You will learn many facts on the Temple of Artemis.

What the Temple of Artemis was made Of

The Temple of Artemis was a large building, so what made it? The temple was made of marble except for the roof. It was constructed in the Bronze Age. In that time, Greece was an enormous empire (or civilization), so they could probably, easily construct the Temple of Artemis. But even then the temple was big. I would think that the temple was made of marble from a mine. The Greeks probably had slaves or prisoners hall the stone. The top or the roof was made of wood. Remember that because it will come important soon. The Temple of Artemis was made of few materials.

What the Temple of Artemis was Like

Ever wonder what the Temple of Artemis looked liked at its former glory? It was a beautiful building. The temple was built on a huge stone platform. The Temple of Artemis stood overlooking the city for all to see. It is said that on the outside there where many statues and pillars. Those are facts. Historians believe that when you walked in the temple you saw the feet of the goddess Artemis. Then when you looked up, you saw the whole statue, and gaped in awe. The temple of Artemis was a magnificent building.

How the Temple of Artemis was Destroyed

Notice how I kept saying, "was" in the article? That is because it was destroyed. All buildings come to the end. Remember I said that the roof was wood? Once, there was an attack on the city. The Temple of Artemis's roof caught fire. The temple was engulfed in flame. Finally, the whole building collapsed. That is one theory. The other is that catapults pounded the temple, and that the substructures gave way under the pressure. I think it could be both, like this: the temple was pounded with catapults and was weakened. Furthermore, the temple caught fire and burned down. They are all possible. Today, historians and archeologists are rebuilding the temple. I want to see the temple before it is rebuilt.
