Hi, I'm Tim and I will tell you about the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was also a tomb, like the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is also a one of the seven wonders. Out of all the wonders this one is my personal favorite. The ruler of Caria (a small country on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea), died and his sister or wife was heartbroken. Her name was Artemisia. Artemisia decided to make one of the most unique buildings in the world.

What the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was Made Of

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was a huge building, so what was it made of? Since Mausolus admired the Greek people, Artemisia got Greek sculptures to design the wonder. She got people like Scopas, Bryaxis, Leochares, and Timotheos, to design the wonder. There where also hundreds of other engineers. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was built on a hill overlooking the city. It was mostly built of marble. It had so many statues and engravings in the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was built like a tall but wide building. The wonder was quite large, for its time. I think that the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus had to have had a lot of resources in it.

Why the Mausoleum was Built

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was built, but why? It was built in honor of king Mausolus. Artemisia (Mausolus's wife), was so sad that she decided to make a huge tomb. She herself did not live to see the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus because she died. Artemisia was probably buried in the tomb also. They were both burned to ashes. The ashes were put in the Mausoleums at Halicarnassus. They were put together in the tomb. I would enjoy living in the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, if it was not a tomb for dead people. In fact, it might be quite comfortable. In that time, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was not a wonder. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was not a wonder because they actually knew how and why it was built. They knew that it was constructed out of marble. Some archeologists do not know the answers too many other questions that need to be answered. I think there should be more research on these wonders of the world. There have been many discoveries, but there are many more to be found. I think that the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus deserves too be a wonder.

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus Today

Have you ever wondered what the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is like today? Today, it is in ruins. That is probably one reason why we can't find the answers too many of the questions. The mausoleum stayed in good condition for 1,600 years. In the A.D.1200s earthquakes badly damaged the structure. Some where in pieces and crumbled on the ground. During one of the crusades of Europe, the knights took the mausoleum apart. The pieces are now used as wall decorations. That is a sad end of the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.
